About Keith Hinds

We moved to San Marcos to work with the Lord’s church at the Palomar congregation in November 2006. Everything seemed to fit perfectly with us and the congregation here. We were looking for a sound congregation in California, and they were looking for a sound, Bible-based preacher. This is the third congregation Karen and I have worked with since we have been married. We celebrate our 26th anniversary on June 29th. We look forward to many more years of marriage, and many more years in this congregation.

Karen and I both grew up in and around Stockton, California. I graduated from The College of World Evangelism (a former school of preaching in San Francisco). In 1977 I received a B.A. degree in Bible from Freed-Hardeman University. In 1984, I received a M.A. degree from Pepperdine University. Shortly after graduating from Freed-Hardeman I began preaching for the church in Livingston, California. After 3 years, I moved to Valley Springs to help begin a new congregation. From there, Karen and I moved to Downey, California to work with the church there for almost nine years.

At Palomar, I preach both Sunday morning and evening and teach the adult Bible class on Sunday morning. In early 2010 we began a “pew packers” session on Sunday evenings right before our worship service. I ask Bible questions to the children for about 12 minutes (the adults get in on it too).

On Wednesday evenings I teach the Bible class for the young men (teenage boys) of the congregation. We work on leadership training, as well as various Bible studies. This includes preparation and training for song-leading and speaking in the worship service. They conduct the Sunday night worship service a few times each year.

I also prepare the bulletin for each Sunday. I occasionally hold Gospel meetings and speak on Brotherhood lecture programs. Along with preaching, I also enjoy song-leading (when I have the opportunity). I have conducted several song-leading and congregational singing workshops over the years.

We are blessed to have three children – Beverly, who has six children; Bill who has three children; and Kary, age 15, who lives at home with us. We are also blessed to have three of our grandchildren living with us at this time, Kayla, Samantha and Morgan. With four teenagers living at our house we have a great time together. The kids enjoy playing sports, drawing, bike riding, watching movies, listening to music, and going to the park. As a family, we enjoy devotionals where we all sing and study the Bible together all and outings to museums, theme parks, ball games and sightseeing in and around San Diego. One of our favorite places to go is “Polishing the Pulpit”, a seminar for preachers and the whole family located in Tennessee near the Smokey Mountains.

Karen and I enjoy our time together. We recently visited Yosemite and site the where I proposed to Karen. We both enjoy watching old movies, playing scrabble (even though Karen usually wins), reading and entertaining company. Karen enjoys baking, crocheting, sewing (she just finished her first big quilt), teaching Bible class, and working outside with her flower and vegetable gardens.

We enjoy being part of the Palomar Church of Christ. We are glad to be with such faithful and loving Christians. It is a great privilege to work with elders who are Bible oriented and spiritual minded.
